Support & Advocacy

PIA National’s Gender Equity Policy

We contributed to the survey promotion and drafting of this policy which recognises the need for greater equity in the planning profession and in the community we plan and design for. The Gender Equity Policy is now online.  In May 2023 there will be another PIA Congress on this policy.

PIA National Equity Working Group

As a result of the policy formation, a national working group was established. We have Leadership Group members who contribute to this national working group and meet monthly to continue this important discussion and progress actions.

Champions and Chats

To support mentoring opportunities between senior level and junior level members. We hold a number of events through the year to provide an informal setting to network. These catch-ups will be available in an inner-city location, either before or after work hours, with catering at attendee’s cost. We’ll make sure to invite a few senior planner ‘champions’ to help conversations kick-start.  Our Leadership Group members are always available for support.

Charity

The WPN WA proudly supports charities associated with our core values. Our supporting charity for 2023/24 is  Orana House

Orana House  provides emergency crisis accommodation and wraparound support to women and their children. They are an independent, not-for-profit organisation with an outstanding reputation within the sector and community, developed over more than 30 years of service. Their purpose-built refuge in Bayswater is a safe environment, staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Orana House also run The SWitCH Centre: Supporting Women in the Community Holistically. This is a one-stop hub where people can access all of our additional services: court support, safety planning, advocacy, counselling, career/financial advice, and so much more. They also  operate a number of transitional homes across Boorloo/Perth and lead the Housing Families program, a ground-breaking initiative that helps our Warrior Women to overcome barriers in the private rental market – because everyone deserves to live free from FDV.

In previous years the WPN WA has supported:
